Overview


From July 1, 2026, businesses will face a significant wave of regulatory change across payroll, compliance and data privacy. This is not a phased transition period it is a hard compliance commencement date.


Business Law WA Commercial Law Legal Director Cass Wright and Associate James Haywood will discuss what is changing, what it means in practice and what organisations need to have in place now to avoid risk, penalties and operational disruption.

Cass Wright, Legal Director, Business Law WA, 


Cass has over 20 years’ experience as a lawyer across Sydney and Perth. Her experience includes advising businesses in commercial legal matters, regulatory compliance, board governance and data protection. Cass has extensive experience in negotiating commercial arrangements including responding to tenders and drafting bespoke contractual arrangements.

Cass has extensive board experience and a passion for board governance. She acts for a broad range of clients from small to large businesses, charities and not for profits across multiple industries. Cass focuses on providing strategic, practical and proactive commercial legal advice to protect her client’s business interests.

 


James Haywood, Associate Commercial Law


James is an Associate in the Commercial team at BLWA and advises businesses on a range of commercial and corporate matters. His practice includes drafting and negotiating business contracts and commercial agreements, providing consumer law advice, assisting with corporate governance matters and advising on data and privacy matters.


James graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2016 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in December 2017. He has experience across both the public and private sectors, including as a Judge’s Research Associate in the District Court of Western Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.
